Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is already facing extended delivery estimates following the opening of preorders on Friday, October 16, 2026. Strong customer demand and reported production constraints have pushed estimated shipping dates into January, raising concerns about the availability of the highly anticipated device ahead of its official release.

The iPhone Duo was unveiled on September 9 at Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event. The device marks the company’s entry into the foldable smartphone market, where established competitors such as Samsung and Google have already introduced several generations of folding devices.

According to reports, delivery estimates on Apple’s online store shifted rapidly after preorders opened. Some customers reported receiving delayed delivery dates despite following Apple’s recommendations to prepare their preferred colour and storage configuration in advance.

The reported delays affect both available colour options, Night Sky and Star White, as well as all four storage configurations. This suggests that supply constraints may be affecting the product across the lineup rather than being limited to a particular version.

The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch display, described in the reports as the largest screen ever offered on an iPhone. Its foldable design is expected to provide users with a larger viewing area while retaining the flexibility of a smartphone.

However, the premium device comes with a substantial price tag. The 256GB model starts at $1,999, while the 512GB version costs $2,199. Customers choosing the 1TB configuration will pay $2,599, and the top-end 2TB model is priced at $3,199.

Apple’s official release date is scheduled for October 23, 2026. Nevertheless, customers who have not secured a preorder may face longer waiting periods if demand continues to exceed the available supply.

The launch is particularly significant because it represents a major expansion of Apple’s iPhone product range into foldable hardware. The company is entering a competitive market in which manufacturers have been working to improve hinge durability, screen quality, device thickness and multitasking capabilities.

The early preorder delays could indicate considerable interest in Apple’s first foldable phone, although shipping estimates alone do not establish the total number of devices sold or the scale of demand compared with previous launches.

For prospective buyers, availability will depend on the selected storage capacity, colour and delivery location. Customers are advised to check Apple’s official online store and authorised retailers for the latest shipping estimates before placing an order.

With its large foldable display, premium pricing and growing anticipation, the iPhone Duo is shaping up to be one of Apple’s most closely watched product launches of 2026. Whether the company can increase production quickly enough to meet demand will become clearer as the October 23 release date approaches.
